Do you think you have what it takes to be the Belly Dancer of the Universe in 2012? First prize wins $1000. You could buy a lot of belly dancing apparel for that amount. Even if you do not feel like participating in the contest, the opportunities for growth and personal advancement are priceless. There are over 18 workshops with 18 celebrity Judges, 3 gala shows, over 5,000 in cash prizes and VIP Parties.
The 22nd Global Belly Dancer of the Universe competition will be held February 17th, 18th and 19th in Long Beach California at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center. Admission will be $18 at the door. This event is open to the public. You will be able to meet and be judged and coached buy previous years winners like Sadie, Leila Farrid, Helena, Sahra and Amir.
There are many categories for winners. Categories include, universal solo ($1000 cash prize), Egyptian solo ($1000 cash prize), drum solo ($300 cash prize), all ages group ($1000 cash prize), fusion solo ($300 cash prize), special prop solo ($300 cash prize), taksim solo ($300 cash prize), Junior solo (ages 13-17. $300 cash prize) and little solo (ages 12 and under, $300 cash prize). This year there will be a new category for family duets (minimum 4 people). There is also the champion of champions prize of 1,000. Champions in any three categories will become a member of the BDUC Hall of Fame.
Participants must be aware of the rules. Certain props like zils and veils must be used in performances and must not be used during other portions. Some of the music is live and other music (like in the Egyptian category) is from a CD which includes drum solos. Registration is open now so start practicing! There is not much time left before the competition begins.
If you are entering this competing make sure you also have the right outfit! You definitely need to look like a champion dancer if you wish to win at any category. Make sure your outfit represents your category properly and you complete your outfit with jewelry and accessories.
This is a great opportunity to network with other belly dancers and see if there is really something special about the way you dance. Even if you do not want to enter a competition you are still able to be judged if you wish. Will you be the next Belly Dancer of the Universe for 2012?
